An interview with Serena Guzzo.

The Interview

What are your responsibilities at Circular Materials?

I’m part of the technical engineering team. At our facility, we have a pilot plant where we conduct experiments, and our job is to use the results to make engineering decisions, particularly in preparation for the industrial plant we plan to build next year.

What is your educational background?

I graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Chemical and Materials Engineering from the University of Padua in 2020. I then continued my studies and earned a Master’s degree in Chemical and Industrial Process Engineering, also from the University of Padua, in 2022. After graduation, I spent two years in Germany working at a research center on a carbon dioxide capture project, where I was able to apply some of the skills I learned during my studies. I recently returned to Italy to start this journey with CM.

How have you developed your skills at CM?

University gave me a solid theoretical foundation and taught me the right approach to tackle any challenge that comes my way. Working abroad, on the other hand, gave me team experience, which is very useful in this environment where everyone, with different roles, works toward the same goal.

How would you describe your relationship with the team?

I find the team very cohesive, both professionally and personally. We all work toward the same purpose, and that makes us very united. Since I’m new, I have a lot to learn, and I find everyone very helpful and supportive.

What aspects of Circular Materials’ project do you appreciate the most?

On one hand, I appreciate the ambition of the project, which involves building chemical plants in the coming years. On the other hand, I value its purpose: recovering metals from industrial wastewater that would otherwise be lost, giving new life to materials that represent a precious resource.
