An interview with Riccardo Zerbini.

The Interview

What are your responsibilities at Circular Materials?

I work in the production department, where I contribute daily to the recovery of critical materials from complex industrial waste, using essential tools to transform waste into resources. Specifically, my role centers around operating equipment such as filter presses, evaporators, stripping units, and SCP systems.

What is your educational background?

My path stems from a passion for technical work and materials but has followed unconventional routes. After years of study in radiology, I chose to change direction and shift toward industrial chemistry, where I found my true calling. I graduated from the J.F. Kennedy Technical Institute in Pordenone, specializing in Industrial Chemistry, where I acquired theoretical and practical expertise in chemical processes, laboratory analysis, and plant management. Additionally, during my studies, I completed a curricular internship at Durante Adesivi, a company specializing in vinyl and polyurethane adhesives, as a quality control technician.

How have you developed your skills at CM?

My skills were developed directly in the field, working hands-on with the equipment and alongside the people who make the recovery of materials from industrial waste possible every day. At Circular Materials, I found a technical and collaborative environment where learning is continuous and practical.
I started in the production department, working alongside process technicians. Over time, I gained autonomy in managing the equipment. Each day, I learned to read process parameters, intervene in case of anomalies, and collaborate with the laboratory on quality control. I developed technical skills, but also methodology, precision, and a sense of responsibility.

How would you describe your relationship with the team?

In one word: synergistic. At Circular Materials, I found a work environment where collaboration is real, daily, and tangible. The production department works because there’s trust, listening, and mutual availability. Whether it’s managing an equipment anomaly, optimizing a treatment cycle, or simply exchanging advice, teamwork is an integral part of the process. This cohesion makes work more effective but also more human. In a technical sector like ours, knowing you can count on the team makes all the difference.

What aspects of Circular Materials’ project do you appreciate the most?

Without a doubt, its concrete environmental vision. At Circular Materials, sustainability isn’t a slogan but a daily practice: every piece of equipment, every treatment cycle, every recovered material is part of a process that reduces waste and restores value to what would otherwise be discarded, contributing to the ecological transition. A particularly interesting aspect of my work is using the SCP system, an innovative technology that applies a chemical-physical approach to metal recovery.
